Teledyne Space Imaging Launches Industrial Image Sensors Tested for Space

Teledyne Technologies, a provider of advanced imaging solutions, announced three new industrial CMOS sensors ranging from 1.3MP to 67MP resolution. These sensors have undergone delta space qualification methodology and radiation testing for space applications. Designed and manufactured in Grenoble, France, and Seville, Spain, they are upscreened for space use at the Grenoble facility.
The upscreened variants (USV) are intended for new space applications such as Earth observation, remote sensing payloads, star trackers, monitoring cameras, space suits, rovers, moon landers, and space situational awareness. These products complement Teledyne’s existing portfolio for science and defense missions by offering options for the less rigorous New Space market.
The three CMOS sensors undergo full screening, serialization, and lot validation tests at two levels: U1 (ESCC9020-like) and U3 (NASA Class 3 tailored for image sensors). They have been tested for radiation effects including Single Event Latch-up (SEL), Single Event Effect (SEE), and Single Event Functional Interrupt (SEFI). Embedded functions include sub-sampling, multi-region of interest (ROI), defective pixel correction, and high dynamic range.
-
Ruby 1.3M USV: A radiation-tolerant 1.3MP (1280 x 1024) global shutter sensor optimized for size, weight, power, and cost (SWaP-C) constrained space systems. Available in monochrome and color versions.
-
Emerald Gen2 12M USV: A 12MP (4096 x 3072) global shutter sensor with low readout noise, multi-ROI features, and both LVDS and MIPI outputs, available in monochrome and color.
-
Emerald 67M USV: A 67MP (8192 x 8192) sensor with a 2.5µm pixel pitch, delivering high resolution and speed (up to 65 fps @10 bit) for Earth observation and space domain awareness. Supports monochrome, color video, and multispectral imaging.
Teledyne e2v offers evaluation kits, reference designs, radiation reports, and space qualification reports to support system integration and accelerate time-to-market. Long product life cycle and obsolescence management are also provided.
At SmallSat Europe 2025, May 27-28 in Amsterdam, a live demo of the Emerald Gen2 12M USV sensor will be presented at Teledyne’s booth 737.
