Cyclomedia expands AI capabilities through Detekt acquisition

Cyclomedia has strengthened its position in geospatial data technology with the acquisition of Detekt, a Vienna-based company specializing in AI-powered road surface analytics. The deal, announced on 20 August 2025, expands Cyclomedia’s capabilities in infrastructure monitoring by integrating Detekt’s advanced defect detection and road asset classification technology into its global portfolio.
The acquisition marks an important step in the company’s data insights strategy. Detekt’s AI platform is designed to identify and classify road defects, markings and other infrastructure assets using mobile mapping data. By bringing this expertise in-house, Cyclomedia aims to offer more precise, scalable and efficient tools to governments and infrastructure operators seeking to manage road networks.
AI-driven geospatial solutions
According to Cyclomedia CEO Sean Fernback, the combination will strengthen the company’s technological leadership. “We’re delighted to add this extraordinary talent to our existing team to further strengthen and build on our AI capabilities and apply this to our data insights products,” he noted. He added that the growing demand for high-quality infrastructure insights underscores the importance of expanding Cyclomedia’s AI-driven solutions.
Detekt CEO and founder Clemens Wasner welcomed the move, stressing the shared vision behind the acquisition. “We are excited to join Cyclomedia, the global leader in reality capture. Our organizations share a deep commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology,” he said. Wasner pointed out that the integration will accelerate the application of AI to large-scale road analytics projects, opening new opportunities for innovation.
The deal also received backing from Cyclomedia’s investor Volpi Capital. Managing Partner Crevan O’Grady described the acquisition as “a strong step in advancing the company’s data insights strategy.” He highlighted the potential of combining Cyclomedia’s large-scale reality capture infrastructure with Detekt’s AI-driven analytics to create new opportunities in the infrastructure and government sectors, adding that the move will deliver long-term value for customers and stakeholders alike.
With its established expertise in 360° street-level visualization and reality capture, Cyclomedia is now set to expand its reach in AI-powered analytics. The integration of Detekt’s technology is expected to further enhance its role in supporting smarter, data-driven infrastructure management across Europe and North America.
